The Embryos - The Embryos Athens - Altanta Collection 1987-1991: the embryos atlanta collection

The Embryos "Athens - Atlanta Collection 1987-1991" delivers a 20 song set of stage stompin' anthems that made this band one of the truly underground indie cult bands of Athens, Georgia during the late 1980's era. Residing in Athens, GA between 1985-1989 and the Atlanta area after 1990, The Embryos were an "originals only" alternative rock band working the underground music scene outside of the established mainstream indie pop scene. With a dedicated local following and good radio airplay the band performed numerous clubs, including 40-Watt, Rockfish Palace, etc and a wide assortment of frats and parties from apartment kitchens to a GOP convention which they are still trying to explain. The Embyros released two albums between 1987-1991: "The Embryos - Athens GA" in 1989 and "The Sky Is Green" in 1991 on the Lasso Records label and 20 of those songs are captured in this collection. Between the two albums, five songs received rotational air play in the Athens and Atlanta area with three songs in simultaneous rotation coinciding with "The Sky Is Green" release in the summer of 1991 which was heavily marketed by the record label including a full size billboard in downtown Atlanta and mass distribution through the area record stores. Alan Ayo of 96 Rock named The Embryos one of the 10 "best up and coming Atlanta bands" in 1990 (along with The Black Crowes) for a review by California based Fast Forward magazine and was subsequently showcased in an exclusive performance. Having established a close knit group of fans, extending outside of the southeast as a result of a brief mention in Spin magazine, the band went latent in the mid-1990s due to new families and careers, however, the core founding team of William and Jonathan has continued to write, perform, and work together over the years. The "Athens - Atlanta Collection 1987-1991" release includes favorites from the first two albums such as: • "Real Bad Day" recorded for The Sky is Green album received heavy rotation on college radio station "Album 88" 88.5 FM in Atlanta during its initial release. • "Letter I Got" (The Sky is Green) – Alan Ayo's "Peach Jam Pick of the Week" on "96 Rock" during the summer of 1990. • "Eyes Of Blue" (Athen's GA) in rotation on Athen's college radio station 90.5 FM during 1989 • "Every Little Thing" (The Sky is Green): continuous commercial airplay 105 FM Athens in 1990 • "She's So Endoceptual" (Athen's GA) receiving honorable mention during a local music review by the Atlanta Creative Loafing in 1990. • "Holidays" (The Sky is Green): played religiously every 24th of December by 96 Rock in Atlanta. The latest iteration of the band 'Race To Venus' continues to record and release new material.
